Stamford AFC, a football team in England’s Northern Premier League Division One South placed QR Codes linked to the club’s Twitter account to team’s shirts.

It is not quite clear how much uptake the club is expecting with the QR Code, considering the movements and the distance of the players.

UK Sports Network notes that other sports have already included social media into their team official outfits, such as FA Womens Football Super League, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

Stamford AFC is claiming to be the first team in the world to have the Twitter account and a QR Code on its official shirts.

The club is keen to embrace the opportunities that the digital age is bringing. The team’s is focused in interacting with the fans through a variety of media.

As the relationship between sport and technology is evolving the club is expecting that this will become a common practice and even more brands, players and sports clubs will look to interact with fans in this manner.
