Simon & Schuster are including QR Codes to their bookcover to boost newsletter signups.
By scanning the code, the customers will be directed to the author’s Simon & Schuster webpage, where they are encouraged to sign up for a newsletter, watch video interviews with the author, when available and browse author’s other publications.
Although the idea is clever is it worth it, when about 14 million smartphone users in the US scanned a QR Code, or about 4.5% of the population.
60% are male and ages of 18 to 35 – 53.4%.
However, those who scan the code are not likely to be very exited by the signup for a newsletter, but many publishers have provided videos within their books and have already seen great results.
The bookcovers will also include the author’s URL in Simon & Schuster’s page for those customers without QR Code scanners or smartphones.
QR Codes appear on trade paperback and hardcover books.
