Samsung launched its own NFC tags and an NFC programming Android application. The Tectiles tags are available in sets of 5 for $15 in AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint, as well as online and direct from Samsung.

The TecTile application is available for free from Google Play and it will allow users to automate their everyday functions such as silencing the phone, setting an alarm and sending an SMS.

Customers will be able to check-in on Foursquare or Facebook, download content or connect to WiFi.

Businesses can engage with customers by allowing them to download discount content or offers, as well as enabling reward programs.

With the millions of NFC-enabled smartphones on the marketplace and the arrival of the Galaxy S III, Samsung sees an opportunity to expand the NFC technology beyond payments.
The TecTiles can be locked permanently to prevent changes and can be programmed again when needed.
