Recycling can bring you prizes

POSTED BY on Oct 26 under QR Codes

Whangarei District Council has started a high-tech campaign encouraging smartphone users to recycle and win prizes.

The campaign will run until the 3rd of December and people with mobile devices who use the recycling bins on the central streets will be able to win points for prizes.

The District Council has joined the “It’s Karma thing” campaign, launched by Love NZ, which is using QR Codes and GPS to scan barcodes on the bins to earn Karma points.

The District Council will stick ti QR Codes on the recycle bins and smartphone users will be able to scan them and use the points on auctions on the Karma Thing website.

The goods in the auction include shopping vouchers, TVs and smartphones.

Love NZ bins are placed in many locations in New Zealand and the campaign is a project that will improve public recycling.

There are over 15 bins in Whangarei and new bins are planned to be installed on the John and Robert streets corner.
