NFC payments up to £20 in the UK

POSTED BY on Jun 4 under Mobile & Web News

From 1st of June the amount that people can pay using NFC technology has increased.

Customers with contactless smartphones and cards with NFC will be able to pay up to £20 using NFC terminals and POS, as the previous limit was £15.

The increase will bring the UK close to the eurozone line, where users can pay up to €25 using NFC.

The contactless technology has been slowly adopted in the UK, compared with Europe and other parts of the world, but the people that are using it are forecasted to increase rapidly in the next few years.

Visa contactless card users are already 20 million in the UK, while the new technology is slowly implemented in the new smartphones, allowing customers to pay for services and goods using their mobile phones.

The increase of the payment limit comes just after the Post Office announced that it will become the world’s largest adopter of NFC payment system, with over 30,000 NFC terminal across the UK in over 11,000 offices. The project is to launch on 6th of June and it is expected to end in October this year.
