Iowa City with QR Codes at the City Hall

POSTED BY on Jul 13 under QR Codes

Residents of Iowa City will be greeted by a large QR Code when they enter the City Hall’s meeting rooms, as part of the city’s project to go paperless and keep up with technology.

When the QR Code is scanned it will direct the community members an instant access to meeting schedule as a step by the city to improve transparency.

The city did not adopt the idea from another city, but they are certainly not the only one that use QR Codes to go paperless.

The QR Codes are coming just a month after the City Council began using iPads to avoid using paper schedules during their meetings.

The service is automatically updated through the Iowa Content Management System and initiated by the City Staff through postings.

Most people agree that the QR Code technology is handy, but some think that people should be aware of the risks to their smartphone devices, which lack security. As the codes are very easy to create, they can be printed and placed over the publicity QR Codes and can link to fraudulent or unpleasant sites.
