Gingerbread is still the dominant Android OS

Android Gingerbread is the predecessor of the Ice Cream Sandwich OS, but it seems that it remains the dominant Android operating system, according to Google Play store statistics.

Gingerbread is currently holding 60% of the Android devices that have been accessing the Google Play, ICS is second with 16%, Froyo comes third at 15.5%, down the line is Eclair at 4%, followed by Honeycomb at 2.4%.

The latest version of Android platform, Jelly Bean has debuted with 0.8% , which apparently is higher than ICS when it was first launched, which fortunately points to a quicker update rate.

Jelly Bean adoption will be higher, hopefully, but at that rate where devices have yet to adopt Ice Cream Sandwich, it doesn’t look very well, but things will catch up in due time, eventually.
