Denny’s new campaign is making use of а QR Code to provide exclusive “The Hobbit” content to fans.

Before the movie’s release in December, Denny’s is promoting a Hobbit themed menu items and is enabling users to access content such as games and videos via QR Codes on the menu packages.

Mobile is a marketing channel that is moving forward and the brand is introducing its first application in the early 2012 and has used QR Codes in the past to bring customers to Denny’s Facebook page and their official website.

As for this project, some exclusive content is unlockable in store only, so mobile marketing is playing a critical role in providing the exclusive content.

Eleven Hobbit menu items are available from this week, including Build Your Own Hobbit Slam, Gandalf’s Gobble Melt and Hobbit Hole Breakfast.

Customers will also receive a card pack with exclusive collectible card designed for the movie and Denny coupons as well.

Customers can also scan the QR Codes on the placemats to unlock an exclusive video content, behind the scenes and online games.

Denny’s is trying to engage a younger audience with this campaign and QR Codes will allow the company to give access to a collection of content and give their customers a new experience.

QR Codes are relevant in connecting with the next generation customers for which mobile and social media are important part of their lives.

The fast food chain is also using billboards, TV ads and online banners to promote its new menu and their partnership with “The Hobbit”.
