The Australian supermarket chain Coles has revealed its partnership with MasterCard to offer its customers a mobile payments application allowing them to make NFC payments.
The trial will run for 3 months with Coles stating that the application will be available to the public by the end of 2013.
Coles MasterCard users will be able to pay for goods by simply waving their smartphones over MasterCard’s PayPass terminal. The app can be also used in any store that is accepting PayPass, but Coles customers will have the advantage to earn points each time they pay.
The trial will include sixty participants equipped with Samsung Galaxy SIII running on Android Jelly Bean.
Coles is also partnering with Gemalto, Vodafone Hutchison Australia, GE Capital Australia and MasterCard to provide the contactless payment platform.
The trial requires a Vodafone SIM card but Coles is planning to expand the app support to all mobile networks.
