A recent report has shown that iOS is reigning the smartphone marketplace, which is largely due to the iPhone 5′s recent release, even though the iPad did help a lot too.
Anyway, in the latest ABI report, the iPad did not seem to contribute that much.
The report shows that in Q3 2012 the iPad had made 55% of the tablet shipments and while that indicates that the device still owns a little over the half of the market share, it also indicates a 14% decline compared to Q2 2012, making it the lowest percentage that Apple has seen since the first iPad.
The market share has gone to Android, unsurprisingly – Amazon, Asus and Samsung along with Android tablets overall are accounting 44% of the tablet shipments.
Unless Apple manages to announce a new iPad in 2013, the rate will continue to decline and eventually Android tablets could catch up and take over the iPad, especially after the announcement of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets from Google, which are both pretty attractive.
